WORSHIP (UPASANA)

#WORSHIP (UPASANA)
Worship means Upasana or literally sitting . Now sitting near is not meant only in the physical sense. Therefore, Guru Upasana does not mean sitting near to the Guru. It means we should sit mentally near the object of our worship. When we do this, we slowly begin to imbibe the qualities of that object.
For example, take a log of wood. When it is placed near the fire, it gradually becomes heated up and catches fire.  For the log of wood, this would be called Agni worship (sitting near the fire). Similarly, if We are cold and sit near a fire, we will also feel the heat of the fire and become warm.
It has been said that we should do Istadeva Upasana I.e. Worship of our chosen deity. We have Rama, Krishna, Shivas idols of worship. In fact, these are not mere idols but ideals.
People unnecessarily criticize idol worship because they do not understand its significance. But in one form or another everyone practices idol worship.  What do we do when we salute the national flag? Though we see only a piece of cloth, we are really saluting the ideal which the flag represent, the national aspirations, values and culture. This is because the flag symbolizes something greater than a piece of cloth. People when think of against some nation, they burn the flag of that country.
The use of symbol for worship is meant for making our minds single/pointed, whereby we gain the very same qualities of ideal we revere. This is like tuning our television to a particular channel and we receive  whatever programme is being broadcast by that section. Similarly, a devotee meditating for Srirama, who was the model of perfect son, husband and brother, will slowly gain those same qualities as Rama.
We become exactly like the company we keep. For example, a person who was not a smoker earlier but started living with people who smoked. They tell him why not you smoke and why not you make one try. After that he slowly becomes a regular smoker. When we live in the company of people, we slowly imbibe their qualities.
By gathering all our attention at one point, we gain all the virtues of that ideal and finally become one with it. This symbolizes the same way when *Meditation Guru Archna Didi* tells us to see or gaze towards a flower, or Jyoti or towards her own face, close your eyes and start visualizing.

  1. Very true when you sit before Didi and gaze her empty mindedly you enter into meditation ,your gaze become a way of concentration and focus.each word is like a syllable of Vedas which enters your mind then.

  3. When we sit near our Guru, something happrns.our fears anxiety and sorrows are absorbed and some sort of calmness takes over. If we always think of our Guru near us and within us we are doing upasna or growing spiritually and started our path of divinity.

  6. Well said. When you are doing any work do it as worship. Everything depends on one's mind. Nothing can be achieved without purity of mind. For me my Sadguru Archna didiji is a source of light and life, love and truth and ethics and morality. I feel blessed when I bow on her lotus feet and feel her presence inside me. Hari om
