Health is the main resource of life. Health in a broader term includes physical and mental fitness, absence of diseases and capability to cope with all circumstances in life. One of these factors is the diet that we take. Diet depends on a person’s intake pattern, preferences, culture and eating habits etc. We all know healthy and nutritious food is very important for good health. Very few of us know what balanced and nutritious diet consists of. It should be delicious as well as stomach filled.
Food is made up of different nutrients needed for growth as well as for health. Each nutrient has specific use in the body. But the amounts of nutrients are influenced by state of health, age, activity, gender etc. It all depends on how the food is handled, grown, processed, stored and cooked etc. These factors affect the amount of nutrients in the food. Following are some of the tips for diet therapy:-
Tips
1. Incorporate fruit and vegetables in your diet. Fruit contains fiber for laxative effect and contain water 90 to 95% which has a diuretic effect on the body. It eliminates the toxins from the body.
2. Avoid combining fruit with meals. It tends to decompose the digestion process. The nutrients present in them are not made available to the body.
3. Listen to your body and have your meals when actually you are feeling hungry. Don’t eat for sake of pleasure, comfort or just to pass time.
4. Chew your food slowly and enjoy every bite. You will be more satisfied and it would be digested nicely.
5. Maintain a record of what you eat and drink for a month or so. Do not over eat. By this you will make sure that you eat a certain caloric amount during a day. Go through the report and decide where you need improvements.
6. Avoid stress while eating. It is because of the fact that our digestive process can be affected and cause problems.
7. Try to drink at least six to eight glasses of water every day. Water is an essential nutrient. It is needed for the maintenance of body temperature. It flushes out the toxins.
8. Exercise regularly. It increases metabolism and burns off more calories per day.
9. Take smaller meals rather than large ones. Your metabolism will stay at higher rate and you will not feel much hungry during the day.
10. Enjoy the favorite food occasionally. It gives pleasure which is good for health.
